Facing Resistance

I’m hearing a common theme lately. Anytime you seek to do well or better yourself, there will always be resistance. If you desire to be holy, some will think you are trying to be better than everyone else. If you desire to be healthy, somebody will think you are looking down your nose at those who just aren’t there yet. If you desire to be debt free, someone will think you’re a tight wad. If you are trying to change for the better in any way, someone will always have a resisting opinion.

So should we just give up and forget trying to better our lives? Never. Paul said in Romans 7:21, “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me…”

I don’t want to get to the end of my life and regret not trying to do good because I met resistance. God has called us to be different and to go against cultural norms when those norms don’t align with His word.

I think of Dave Ramsey’s quote often, “Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else.”

Instead of giving up so easily when going against the grain, I will see resistance for what it is, strength training.

I’m here to encourage you to forget about what people think! The only opinion that matters is God’s! Give yourself permission to grow in God, to be holy, healthy, and free from all the resisting opinions that aren’t adding value to your life! Pushing through the resistance will only make you stronger.

Are you facing resistance with some good changes you are trying to make? I’d love to hear how you are pushing through! Leave a comment below!

Great post! Each time I face a decision, I always ask myself which path is the hardest, scares me the most, and causes the greatest resistance around me. So far, choosing that path has served me very well.
