Lately, I’ve been thinking about the kind of person that I want to be. I keep hearing and reading that if you want to achieve great things or grow, you need a vision. So many times when we hear this we automatically think about careers, houses, money and social status. But what if instead of envisioning the things we desire in our life, we envisioned the kind of person that we want and should be? What if we spent some time thinking about how we want to make others feel just by being around us?
The career, house, bank account, popularity are just temporary distractions from what really matters. As a Christian, I have to consistently evaluate my life and make sure I’m on track to reach my final destination, Heaven. Many of the things we spend our time and energy on these days aren’t getting us any closer to making it there.
The kind of person I want to be is loving, kind, inclusive of everyone, compassionate, considerate, forgiving, merciful, disciplined, a good listener, giving, wise, intentional, not extravagant, etc.
As I write this, I can’t help but think of Galations 5: 22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”These are the “things” I want to envision for my life. This is the direction I want my life to take.
Maybe this is just for me, but if you’ve been chasing all of the “stuff” this world has to offer and still feel discontent and unfulfilled, then perhaps it’s time to create a new vision for yourself.
